DISORDER
Installation
8 x 10 m

Spazio Gheroarte
Milan, 2005

Video documentation of the interactive installation over an 8 day period:

This installation relies on the active intervention of viewers. The work is in constant evolution.

The virtual environment of a partly constructed apartment has been installed within the gallery. As viewers interact within the environment they change its form according to their preference.

Each participant encounters the latest change left behind by the most recent interaction and develops a reaction.

The representations of furniture and walls place the situation in context and stimulate the viewers’ relations to the different components of the installation. Hidden speakers emit quotidian sounds within the space in order to reinforce this virtual half-constructed environment.

As a third party we can enjoy a voyeuristic view of the participants’ reactions to the installation.

When given the opportunity to adjust to the environment around them, the participants colonized the space as their own. As the installation developed, it lost its functional quality and became an abstract form. This disorder was finally championed by the last viewer, who tried to reorganize the cumulative chaos into a functional apartment space once again.
